Just because the posts stop here doesn't mean the skateboarding in pools has. Actually quite the contrary. The skateboarding is happening around the clock, pools being found, drained and skated all day every day. Skateboarding in empty swimming pools has never been better or better executed. The sessions that happen in and around the Ridiculous house have become lore around these parts and those in the know know where to go. Don't be scared, get out and find the Ridiculous in your neck of the woods or if yer lucky come over and check out ours.

So much water means we have some work to do. Better get chopping, time is a wasting. Wet socks and soggy shoes is the name of the pool skating game when it comes to business. Shooting photos and video is the bonus of a productive day. Photography is better when you have a story to back up your images. Time to dust off my rain boots because nothing is funner than standing knee deep in a beautiful pool with a pump in one hand and a broom in the other. Better bring some extra clothes and socks so when its time to skate you are ready.

A great day for skateboarding

The weather is nice and dry, two things needed when considering the act of modern day skateboarding as we know it. For the sake of today's argument we are talking about riding in empty swimming pools typically of the backyard variety. I'm differentiating because many pools are now located in public skateboard parks. Skate park pools and backyard pools made for swimming are two totally different beasts. The backyard variety is the preferred terrain for our group here in the Badlands. Skate park pools are fun, but lack the zest and appeal many of us are looking for when planning skateboarding adventures.

There really is no adventure to going to a skate park because you already know what you are getting. On the other hand, searching has its rewards well as pitfalls. Rewards are obvious, finding and grinding something nobody has seen: being an explorer allows you to ride stuff for the first time, which feels great. Time and luck are two things needed if you have them. If not a good map and or a willingness to get "lost" usually helps. Sometimes nothing is found, but information is gained. Other times it seems as if a gold rush is happening, it all depends. Time will tell. Try this over months and years and overt time you will achieve results which may vary depending on your geographical location.

If all else fails, the skate park pool will be there waiting for your tortured soul. Even if it seems as though everyone at the skate park is developing quicker than you, rest assured the information you have gained through intensive research is more valuable now and later. Its called build blocks of culture that most will never see or even notice. Finding spots and opening up new challenges is what skateboarding is all about. Being a part of that process is thee most rewarding part of skateboarding, whether you find a new spot or build one, its all the same. Thank you the unsung soldier of skateboard rebellion, for rolling forward with reckless abandon into the new century.

Its been a long month. The glut before summer always seems to lag. I'm looking forward to blistering hot and sunny days. The kind of days where most are afraid to venture out due to the excessive heat. I will be out looking, skating and documenting. Rest assured, the heat does not stop us, it makes us stronger. So as the weather heats up keep those windows closed tightly and air conditioners on full blast because you don't want to hear us skating your pool.

Skateboarding and empty swimming pools go really well together. Combine that with a new DVD and a video projector and you have the ingredients for a great evening. Well, that's what we had over here at Pk's Ridiculous on a cold and cloudy January night. Good times were had by all in attendance and all age ranges and ability levels were represented. Special thanks to everybody who showed up and braved the cold.

Happy New Year! Bob Wayne, on a recent visit to Orange County, decided he wanted to play a backyard BBQ instead of the usual bar scene. A handful of lucky fans got a very special treat. Rudeaman got the crowd ready for Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies. The tacos were flowing as well as the beer. The energy was high and the mood festive as the anticipation of the evening grew. The Skatanic Rednecks concluded the party with an improv set played with a rotation of musicians who've never met or played together before, ending the evening with great comraderie and music.

12.7.08 Air Conditioned Supper Club Screening

I got there a little late due to traffic on the 420 fwy. Upon arrival I was greeted by none other than Lester Kasai chillin sippin' a brew, laying low. Another standout attendee was LA's very own Mark Jones. Pat Ngoho strolled onto the scene just in time for the mugshots with the boys. Bruce Thomas kept shit cool. Special thanks to Earl of SMA & Rip City Skates for being down. I only saw the last 2 bands and they both fuckin rocked! I grew up going to punk shows and its a pleasure to see groups keeping shit straight.
Both of my videos "A Badlands Adventure" and "Under the Influence" were screened due to overwhelming response from the increasingly intoxicated crowd.

11.29.08 Pool Party Screening

Ben Butler's pad in Anaheim was the scene for the 2ND screening. Finally back in action is his glorious right hand kidney which he graciously redesigned to make our skating lives a little easier, not to mention making the shallow stairs a little easier to make. So much ripping skating went down I can't even remember half of it. I know I saw Jim Grey consistently abusing the coping in the mid walls on that beautiful 3" Anthony coping. Lance Mountain was hanging out laying low. Ron Chatman provided positive vibrations as always. Bruce and Big Al layed low. Riverside Steve came out of the orange grove long enough to catch a few grinds and a thick buzz. A BBQ went down and while briefly manning the grill a couple girls looking for wieners were spotted lurking in the perimeter. Linc showed that skating into your 30's only gets better! Mike Seehusen and crew partied like they owned the place! Ben Butler made just about every possible line. The Channel Street crew put in mileage on that bowl. A few young rippers whom I had't seen before dominated the session with explosive energy and endless lines. Opening the entertainment roster was Hank Reuler aka Dave Reul and Tyrannosaurus before DJ Cesar taking the stage. The video was projected across the entire deep end of the pool, from the mid wall to the hip. When I left after midnight the place was still going off! A great event celebrating local skate culture in all its glory. Thanks Ben!

Hollywood Screening 11.15.08

The first official screening took place at Ryan Simonetti and Steve-O's Apt/Ramp/Bowl off Sunset Blvd in the heart of Hollywood. For those unfamiliar with this structure, its an empty pool replica built into a 2 bedroom apartment. The walls into both rooms were removed over time to accommodate the expanding ramp which led up to the kitchen counter top and thru the dining area to pool coping and tile 1.5 feet from a sliding glass door no more than 15 feet from the neighboring building. Its history now. Thanks Ryan and Steve!
